A Teachers Guide
Six Different Prompt Formats
Daily Ten Prompts are designed to spark impromptu thoughts and ideas, given a short amount of time (ten minutes). Mega-Prompts offer a larger base of ideas and probing questions for the given topic, helping to uncover related issues and personal background knowledge. Calendar Prompts offer students more choice with less prompt. Important events, thought provoking memorials, and fun celebrations are noted each day. Picture Book Prompts are a great way to introduce fun writing activities for students of all ages. They develop background knowledge, build vocabulary and get students excited about sharing personal experiences. Story Starters - This site has one of the most popular and comprehensive menu pages available on the internet directing you to a wide array of story starter websites. The Write Stuff, authored by our resident blogger, J. Mckay, provides timely inspiration, blended with creative prompt ideas, sprinkled lightly with practical advice for learning... and life.
with free Publishing
This most important (yet too often neglected) aspect of writing forms the second of two pillars supporting our site concept. Students who are not given the opportunity to share their writing with others lose interest quickly. A lack of enthusiasm soon reflects in the quality of their work. Most of our writing prompt pages contain a user interface text box, following the prompt, for entry submissions. Student writing that has been published may be found by clicking on "Read Submitted Essays" (directly below the page heading). The publishing experience is enhanced through increased public exposure. When young authors realize that their writing will be enjoyed by hundreds or thousands of readers, the importance of what they write (content) and how well it is written (quality) takes on a whole new meaning.

Prepare Now for Success
As a coach, I preached the importance of preparation to my runners. Training "smart" and "having fun" made the whole experience more effective and rewarding for everyone. I think you will agree that these same principles apply to classroom instruction.

Make a Big Difference!
Have a great year... Coach Hart
