The Write Stuff Blog

by J. McKay

The Write Stuff is timely inspiration, blended with creative prompt ideas, sprinkled lightly with practical advice for learning... and life.

Dear Reader,
We have a new feature on our website. It's been said that a picture is worth a thousand words. I guess that makes one short video clip worth millions. So when available, appropriate, and related to the content, a "video link" will be posted with each Daily Ten Prompt.

Some locations (especially schools) may be unable to access these videos because of filtering. For those who can, you have my personal assurance that selected video clips are suitable for viewing by all ages. Thanks for the visit... Coach Hart

What Makes a Writer?
The purpose and design of this site is to facilitate meaningful, daily writing.

If I were the writer of food labels, I would at least humor the customer with my own hubris.

I’m not sure when I fell through the looking glass but I just keep getting closer to everything I set out to run from.

Other than the aforementioned editor’s 3rd grade grammar teacher, the rest of the world is ashamed that you are one of us.

Everything that I’m looking for becomes more detailed and clear until for a brief moment I almost feel like I’m there.

I thought I was WiFi dependent as an instructor but that petty addiction pales in comparison with my ‘eye’ fixation.

The thought that an instant boost in quality of life is just a phone call away is alluring to say the least.

Better than a bandaid would be to quit looking for ‘boo-boos’ and recognize that I feel the best when I don’t go looking for the worst.

If she had then told us, operators were standing by and if we ordered now she would double our shipment of B.I.C, there would have been a mad scramble...

...we often ask students to recreate and present very special memories. Naturally, even with a deft hand, these written recreations will be lacking some of the magic of the original.

Even though they may be unanticipated, these moments provide us with the chance to evaluate the value of what we lost and redirect our efforts if necessary.

As a young runner I appreciated that my coaches would often join us for our workouts. It didn’t matter if they led the pack or brought up the rear.

Can someone grow up with something so grand always present in the background and still find it majestic or appreciate it with the same intensity of someone who’s lived a life time without it?

Not only should we give back to the communal well we draw from, what we get from what we take in is more substantial when we do something with it....

...with few exceptions the components of my ideal ‘grind’ required little time or money—both of which are often primary excuses I give for not being as happy as I would like to be.

Make a Big Difference!
