Sportsmanship
Share a few of your thoughts on sportsmanship? Is this an issue that we need to be concerned with? Or is it one of those outdated social topics that fall into the same category as proper phone etiquette and good table manners? What does being a "good sport" mean to you? In today's "trash-talking", competitive world, what is appropriate behavior and what is not? For example, is a little "end-zone" celebration okay? If so, how much? Should we be that concerned with how the opposing players feel... at what age? Share a few personal experiences that you've had with this issue. Do we need more rules on the playing field that enforce "being nice", or not as many? Whose responsibility is it to see that this social skill is taught... coaches, schools, or parents? Is there something to be said for kids learning that "life is not always fair", or to "quit your crying and get in the game"? Remember, good persuasive writing offers a clearly stated position. Don't try to play both sides of the issue. Take a stand and stick to it. Defend your argument with several, well-explained reasons along with a few specific and relevant examples.
